The United States Needs A Data Protection Act

June 30th, 2008 | by admin |

I think the US needs a Data Protection Act not unlike what is found in Europe. However, I think we can go one step farther and integrate current laws against telemarketing and spamming to create a bill that would safeguard our privacy and prevent the current kinds of misuse. We all get dozens of credit card offers, refinancing offers, etc. in the mail. It is these kinds of invasions of people's privacy that has led so many Americans to mismanage their credit. I think we need to put a stop to companies checking into citizen's credit histories unprovoked and offering them credit without their consent. An act could also cover cctv data protection. as CCTV data is used more and more in shops, offices, car parks and even lifts there is a need to ensure that the use of this data is regulated, stored and protected properly.
